Why Edrosothon?

Because noted blogger, Village Voice contributor, former Reverb Motherfucker and sometime shut-in Roy Edroso is too damn proud to do it himself.

By popular demand we want to help out and reward one of the Intertubes best and funniest writers. Give via the PayPal button on the right. Thanks!

  1. As was asked at Alicublog, is there a PO Box for those who want to bypass PayPal?

  2. Not yet, as Roy doesn't even necessarily know about this endeavor. Since he had been asked to put up a donation page for awhile and hasn't done it, I just figured it was time to take it upon ourselves. I'd be open to other suggestions. I'm sure we'll have a PO box soon enough and this site and donation page will remain open for the forseeable future.

  3. What a great idea! Thanks for doing this, Jay. I only wish I could afford to chip in more, but times are what they are. I will, when I can--I enjoy Alicublog very much and hope Roy keeps it going forever, and I also know how precious little writers get paid, and how much time it takes to create content. *sigh*

Okay, off to spread the word.

  4. Hey litbrit -- it's more than generous to give anything. I was thinking like micropayments and here everyone is shaming me, including you. I feel a little weird about it honestly, from what I know about Roy he might think it is an imposition (but he'll be gracious about it for sure), but it seems that people WANT to help. So...

  5. Oy, no shaming intended! *I* am ashamed to have been enjoying such a great read all this time while never having to pay for the pleasure. Micropayments add up, and this is brilliant. Again, thanks for doing it. (You might also consider doing a subscription set-up at pay pal, so folks can chip in a bit every month as though they were buying their favorite magazine.)

    Cheers,
    D.

  6. Yes, thanks, Jay.

I was worried when Roy seemed to disappear over this last weekend. I was so happy to see today that he'd posted, although his personal news was still worrying. So it's a relief to be able to contribute a little help.

o its a relief to be able to contribute a little something to help out.

  10. All the way from rainy Australia, I give a screw about Edroso too. I can't ignore one of the best snark writers I've ever read or allow the stupid US welfare system to have it's way. Sheesh, and Jonah Goldberg has a six-figure income.

  11. I'm in. I only wish I'd bought him a steak dinner when he was at the rally in D.C.

  12. Another request for a PO Box from a paranoid without a credit card. I'll raid my piggy bank in the name of brilliant snark.

  13. Xenides--yeah, Jonah Goldberg is squatting and farting in his Upper West Side apartment while this is going on.

Thanks for doing this, Jay B.

  14. Things are going swimmingly, thanks to everyone involved. I think I might even tell Roy about it, since he might not know about it yet. It's going so well, and folks have shown such generosity, that I fear Jerry Lewis is ordering a hit on me as we speak. That fatuous douche, hiding behind his kids while he shoots up the "charity".

Not us. Not here. Roy will drink his. Without crying and asking for more.

  15. thanks, jay b. edroso's blog means a ton to me--it's the only site where i'm remotely a regular in the comments.

  16. Jay, thanks again for doing this. It is a scandal that Roy gets nothing for giving us Alicublog (a scandal largely of the stubborn bastard's own making, refusing all payment as he always has).

I don't view this as a donation, I view it as a small payment towards what I owe Roy for years of his glorious writing. Though he owes me a bit too, as compensation for all the vertebrae I have hocked up laughing at his stuff.
